The DGA provides a domain registration service for government entities
RIYAD – The Saudi Digital Government Authority (DGA) announced the launch of Saudi domain name registration services for government agencies and entities within the government sub-branch (.gov.sa) and sub-branch (.her).
The services are provided in partnership with the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) as it is the competent authority to organize and operate Saudi domain names. The telecoms regulator has entrusted this mission to the DGA in order to strengthen its role in the regulation of digital administration work and to achieve better governance of public domain name registration services.
The DGA takes care of everything related to digital governance and is the national reference in digital administration in the Kingdom. The authority aims to regulate digital work in government agencies to enable them to deliver highly efficient digital services and achieve integration between all government agencies with regards to digital governance.
Ing. Ahmed Al-Soyyan, governor of the DGA, said the authority wanted to achieve integration in the field of digital government in partnership with various government agencies.
“The Authority, as part of its primary role of organizing and developing digital government work as well as strengthening governance, will play an important and central role in placing the Kingdom in a distinctive place among the advanced countries in digital government. This by striving to enable digital transformation in accordance with the highest international standards and to provide digital experiences and services focused on the needs of beneficiaries to achieve the goals of the Kingdom Vision 2030, ”he said. .
In March of this year, the Council of Ministers approved the creation of the DGA with the aim of automating government services and better coordination between ministries and other state bodies. Authority aims to regulate the work of digital government in government agencies, in order to achieve digital and proactive government capable of delivering highly efficient digital services and achieving integration in the field of digital government among all government agencies.
The authority explained that government agencies or companies that have contracts and operate with government agencies are now able to obtain Saudi domains by submitting requests through the link (dga.gov.sa/domains). The domain registration service aims to allow the user to choose their domain name according to Saudi domain name rules and regulations and then register and manage it.
It should be noted that the authority previously issued a circular regarding the creation of new platforms, mobile applications and websites in all areas, as well as integration channels and digital services to all government agencies and to its affiliated or associated entities. He also stressed the need to get the authority’s prior approval before creating a new platform.
The authority’s tasks include approving policies related to its activities, plans and programs necessary to implement them; propose related systems projects; participate in the development of national strategies for digital government, oversee their implementation and monitor compliance. The DGA also coordinates with the competent authorities to work on the regulation of works, platforms, sites and digital public services and digital government networks.
This includes establishing plans and programs related to digital government operations and shared digital services, digital trust services and the government digital marketplace platform. It also organizes operations, management and associated projects, distributes them to the competent authorities and ensures their compliance.
