Squarespace now offers domain registration starting at $20 per year
website builder square space today launched a new feature that allows customers to purchase a domain name directly from its site before using its design tools to put everything together.
The company says the move puts it in direct competition with companies like come on daddy and Wix – the latter also being a website builder.
Squarespace says that at launch it will offer over 200 top-level domains, starting at $20 per year. Depending on the desired domain, this price can reach $70 per year.
Users can connect the domain to their Google apps for personalized email, and registration includes a WHOIS privacy protection plan. It will also offer SSL certificates and domain transfers for free, but these features are coming soon.
The launch comes a week after Etsy just unveiled its own website builder, Pattern, which also lets its seller community buy and manage custom domain names. However, Pattern uses a third party partner to make domain registration easier, and a WHOIS plan costs an extra $3 per year.
Squarespace Domains are available today.
Editor’s note: The previous version of this article stated that plans start at $20 per month. We regret this error.
